More intense economic cooperation of Slovakia and Azerbaijan

Slovakia’s relations with the European Union and Azerbaijan, energetics and current international policy issues in the area of the South Caucasus were discussed during the political consultations of the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Peter Burian and the Deputy Minister of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov.

Both partners confirmed the interest in more intensive economic cooperation which can rely on existing successful projects of Slovak companies in Azerbaijan. State Secretary P. Burian emphasized the need for progress in negotiations on investment protection and prevention of double taxation which are important to support businesses in both countries.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic was also interested in the current situation in Azerbaijan. Concerning the solving of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he stressed the need to respect the principle of territorial integrity. Due to the ongoing processes in Azerbaijan and its participation in Eastern Partnership, he offered to provide Azerbaijan with the experience from the transformation of the Slovak Republic.
