The economy of Azerbaijan has recorded a fast development rate of economy in the world: in the year 2007, the GDP of the country increased by 6.5% to $20.4 billion. Since 1996, the economic growth continues without a break; during 10 years the economy of Azerbaijan has reached a growth of 13.6% every year (in comparison with the year 1995, the level of the GDP had risen 8.4 times). In the year 2007, Azerbaijan realized import-export operations with 135 countries in the total cost of $10.5 billion. $5.5 billion (52.2%) of it represents the export and $5 billion (47.8%) the import. The bilance of trade payments is represented in the amount of $461.9 mil. A great part of foreign operations (81.7%) includes trade with Turkey, Russia, Italia, Iran, USA, Ukraine, Germany, Great Britain, Georgia, France, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Japan, China, India and South Korea.

Mutual trade exchange between Azerbaijan and Slovakia in the year 2008 reached the amount of 26.8 mil. EUR. The import to Slovakia is 5 mil. EUR, which represents the accumulation with an index of 17 859% in comparison with the year 2007. The export reached 21.8 mil. EUR, which is, in comparion with the same period of the year 2007, the accumulation by 110%.
In the import, oils and mineral fuels dominate with the share of 96.6%, enginery and machinery cover 3%. From Slovakia, machines and transport mechanisms (63.3%), market products (27.8%) and industrial products (6.6%) are exported. Slovakia has a positive amount of balance with Azerbaijan in the amount of 16.9 mil. EUR.
