Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov in Slovakia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov was received on June 7, 2023 in Bratislava by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Wlachovský. Departmental colleagues conducted negotiations on the possibilities of deepening relations between Azerbaijan and Slovakia and the development of bilateral cooperation, primarily in the field of economy and energy.

Minister Wlachowský and Minister Bayramov also discussed the effects of Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as the current situation in the South Caucasus region and relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Minister Wlachovský, in connection with the mentioned topic, reminded that Slovakia respects internationally recognized borders and supports the peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The highlight of the meeting was the signing of an important intergovernmental agreement, the Treaty between the Republic of Slovakia and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion in the area of income taxes, which creates conditions for greater support of business activities.

Minister Bayramov also met with the Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Boris Kollár, with whom they talked about bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and also discussed issues related to regional and international security.

Other meetings of the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs included a visit to the Government Office of the Slovak Republic. The current Slovak Prime Minister Ľudovít Ódor expressed Slovakia’s interest in developing relations with Azerbaijan, while Minister Bayramov confirmed that it is a mutual interest, both in the political, economic and energy fields, as well as in the cultural, humanitarian and other fields.

The ongoing dialogue between the two countries, mutual visits and contacts, including political negotiations, have significantly contributed to the development of relations.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov mentioned how extensive the restoration and construction works are in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. In this context, he emphasized that Slovak companies and investors who would be interested in the field of construction in Azerbaijan have their doors open.
