Rudolf Schuster visited towns of Sheki and Gabala and Surakhani district

During his business trip in Azerbaijan, former president of the Slovak Republic Rudolf Schuster visited towns of Gabala, Sheki and Surakhani district.

On October 12, 2011, the head of the Executive Power of Gabala region Sabuhi Abdullayev greeted the former president. He showed the guest one of the hotel resorts, in which Gabala International Music Festival is annually organized and also amusement park Gabaland. Former president also visited Beltmann piano factory. Current owner of the factory, Mr. Hans Leferink, who continues the family tradition of producing quality pianos, cordially welcomed the guest. Mr. President Schuster also went to the canning factory producing (non)alcoholic drinks. As far as it was pomegranate season, the president had a possibility to see juice manufacturing and canning this delicious and healthy drink without using artificial additives and preservatives. In one of the most ancient towns of Azerbaijan, Mr. Schuster visited the church of  the Udins minority that has a strong support of its own language and religion.

Sheki with the population of 63 thousand is a town in northwestern Azerbaijan. It is surrounded by the peaks of Great Caucasus and offers attractive tourist possibilities.
Mr. President was received by the head of the Executive Power of Gabala region, Mr. Elchan Usubov. Accompanied by Mr. Usubov, he visited the Albanian church Kish dated back to 1-5th century a.d. In its walls, archeological foundings from the vicinity such as household utilities and former inhabitants’ skeletal remains. Next place on the list to visit was the Sheki Khans palace from the second half of the 18th century. Impressive exterior and well-preserved colourfulness of inner decorated walls of the palace that was built without a nail or glue (mosaics parts fit like puzzle) left an remarkable impression on the guest. The tour was enriched with valued and interesting information about the history of the Sheki region thanks to the knowledgeable guide. The next and at the same time the last stop was the Caravansarai, where the dinner of Mr. Usubov and Mr. Schuster took place.

In the Surakhani district in the southeastern part of Absheron peninsula Mr. President Schuster met the head of the executive power, Mr. Ilgar Abbasov. Surakhani district is one of the oldest settlements at the peninsula. Because of the oil output, the number of population remarkably increased by the end of the 19th century. Nowadays the district develops and is supporting the youth programs in the Heydar Aliyev Centre with modern classrooms and conference halls. Former president visited the temple of Ateshgah, the place of the fire worshippers – the religion of Zoroastrianism. Mr. Abbasov showed the guest form Slovakia the magistracy and was a pleasurable company during the President’s last day in Azerbaijan.
