Azerbaijani minister of foreign affairs on official visit to Slovakia

Bilateral issues and regional relations dominated today’s (26 January) discussions between Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, and Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The partners agreed that there is untapped potential for cooperation between the countries, with possibilities especially in the economic and investment areas. They identified prospective areas as primarily energy, construction, building infrastructure, agriculture, information technologies and tourism with an emphasis on the spa industry. The planned opening a permanent diplomatic representation of Azerbaijan in Bratislava will contribute to a more intensive, pragmatic dialogue and the establishment of contacts between Slovak and Azerbaijani investors.

“We also perceive Azerbaijan as a constructive player and important partner in the context of the effort to ensure energy security for the EU,” added Minister Lajčák. He presented his partner an invitation to a meeting of the V4+ format that will be held in May this year in Slovakia especially involving the Eastern Partnership countries.
